1. We have been commanded to pray (Matt. 26:41, Luke 18:1, Phil. 4:6-7, 1 Thess. 5:16-18)
2. The Lord Jesus Himself prayed (Mark 1:35, Luke 22:41) and we are told to imitate Him (1 Cor. 11:1).
3. God intends prayer to be the means of obtaining His solutions in various situations including for guidance (Luke 6:12-13), for spiritual harvest (Luke 10:2), for victory over temptation (Matt. 26:41). If we are in need we need to ask (Jam. 4:2).
4. We pray to demonstrate our faith in God, that He will do as He has promised in His Word and bless our lives abundantly more than we could ask or hope for (Eph. 3:20,21)
How should we pray?
- If our prayers need to be answered the way we ask then we need to pray with faith according to God’s will as revealed in the Bible (1 Jn. 5:14,15, Matt. 6:10, Matt.21:22).
- We end in “Jesus name” because 2 Cor. 1:20 says, “All the promises of God find their “Yes” in Him” and the Lord has promised in John 14:13-14 is that “Whatever you ask in my name this I will do that the Father may be glorified in the Son”.
Don’t pray selfishly and proudly (Jam. 4:3, Luke 18:11-12). Our prayers should always glorify God!
A Prayerless Christian is a contradiction in terms just like a Faithless Christian!
